New on Apptrove: Meta Event Deduplication for More Accurate Conversion Reporting

Running Meta Ads while using multiple event tracking methods can sometimes create a hidden reporting problem: duplicate conversions.

If your app sends the same event to Meta through both the Meta SDK and the Conversions API (CAPI), Meta may receive two copies of the same event. Without proper deduplication, this can inflate conversion counts, impact campaign optimization, and make performance analysis less reliable.

To solve this, Apptrove now supports Meta Event Deduplication, allowing you to pass a unique Event ID and Event Time with every in-app event sent through CAPI. Meta then recognizes duplicate copies of the same event and counts the conversion only once.

Why Event Deduplication Matters

Many advertisers rely on both the Meta SDK and server-side tracking to improve measurement reliability. While this approach strengthens attribution, it also increases the chances of duplicate event reporting when both sources send the same conversion.

With Meta Event Deduplication, we help ensure that:

  • Duplicate conversions are automatically identified by Meta.
  • Event reporting stays consistent across platforms.
  • Campaign optimization is based on cleaner conversion data.
  • You can confidently use both SDK and server-side event tracking together.

How It Works

We allow you to configure two event properties during your Meta integration:

  • Deduplication Prop Event ID – A unique identifier for every event.
  • Deduplication Prop Event Time – The timestamp associated with that event.

Once configured:

  1. Your application generates a unique Event ID whenever an in-app event occurs.
  2. The same Event ID is sent to us.
  3. We forward that Event ID to Meta through the Conversions API.
  4. If Meta also receives the same event from the Meta SDK with the identical Event ID, it automatically recognizes both as the same conversion and removes the duplicate.

This ensures every conversion is counted only once.

Flexible Configuration

During Meta partner integration, simply choose which event parameters contain:

  • Event ID
  • Event Time

You can pass these values using dedicated macros or SDK Parameters (1–10), provided the same parameters are selected in the Meta partner integration settings.

If no values are configured:

  • We automatically use the Event Log ID as the Event ID.
  • The Event Log Time is sent as the Event Time by default.

More Accurate Reporting, Less Manual Effort

The key to successful deduplication is consistency. The same Event ID generated by your application should be shared with both the Meta SDK and us. Meta then uses this identifier to recognize duplicate copies of the same event across different data sources and keeps reporting accurate.

Once configured, everything works automatically in the background, helping eliminate duplicate conversions without requiring any changes to your attribution workflow.

Available Now

Meta Event Deduplication is now available as part of the Apptrove Meta Ads integration.

If you’re already using the Meta SDK alongside server-side event tracking, enabling Event ID-based deduplication is a simple way to improve reporting accuracy and ensure every conversion is counted exactly once.
